An exciting opportunity has arisen for a STRUCTURAL ENGINEER.
Our Client is a global company engaged in the development, delivery and support of advanced defence and aerospace systems in the air, on land and at sea.
Because of the nature of the work associated with this post, it is subject to all selected candidates being required to undergo detailed security clearance. You will need to hold a British passport and to have been resident in the UK for at least the last 5 years in order for full security checks to be processed.
You will be an experienced engineer with a degree in Mechanical/Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture or related field. Ideally you should have a track record in the design of ships, submarines or offshore structures. A thorough understanding of the theory and principles of structural design and stress analysis is required. Experience of finite element analysis is an advantage. You will be comfortable taking responsibility for the design intent throughout design and build. Roles are also available for engineers who can offer deep experience in a specialist area such as advanced finite element analysis (e.g. non-linear elasto-plastic methods), fatigue/fracture, safety case assessments or other specialism related to marine structural design.
Responsibilities include:
Undertaking structural design and analysis tasks in support of the company's programmes for submarines/ships. Generating structural solutions/configurations and provide the associated supporting analytical assessment demonstrating fitness for purpose and safety. Undertaking code based structural design to Naval/Lloyds or other relevant national structural standards. For specialised roles, undertaking advanced finite element analysis (eg. non-linear elasto-plastic, fatigue etc.). Providing guidance information (via sketches/drawings etc) support and advice to CAD design/modelling teams. Ensuring designs are efficient and compatible with economic considerations to design for production and cost reduction.
